First and foremost, this rifle feels amazing. It’s solid, sturdy, and weighty. It makes all the right noises and when it fires – Ooft!
The Tokyo Marui AKX Gas Blowback Rifle is a modified version of the company’s renowned AKM GBB, which was the first gas blowback based on a Kalashnikov. Tokyo Marui’s original design has been updated and customised with the base AKM. The design facilitates customising the GBB rifle to meet airsoft player requirements, such as the option to accessorise the AKX.
The AKX has a sleek and compact appearance thanks to its 7-inch M-Lok handguard made of aluminium. Despite being lightweight, Deka claims that it is extremely rigid. Three different types of slots, which are optional parts, can be added by players to customise the rail to their needs. The AK is the only firearm that can use the 3-port muzzle brake, which is likewise built of aluminium.
Although the front sight is intended to be blended with the gas block, the AKM’s look is nevertheless preserved.
The top rail of the receiver, which is die-cast zinc, is linked to the receiver cover. Precision shooting with an optic installed is challenging because the railed receiver cover has backlash from the recoil/blowback impact. The centre ring lock mechanism at the back of the receiver was created by Tokyo Marui designers to stop this. After performing maintenance, reinstalling the rail cover will automatically centre the rail by twisting the ring lock. Rail mounts make it simpler to add extras like optics and other targeting and lighting equipment. When an optic is attached, the backup sight at the back can be moved out of the way.
For simpler operation to change between fire modes and return to safety, the fire selector features a large call out. A two-way system on the magazine catch makes it simpler to use while gripping the pistol grip, which is their own design and resembles the M4 grip. The strengthened plastic used to create the slim stock gives it strength and lightness. A sling mount is positioned at the hinge location of the folding stock, and it is used to lift and lightly swing the stock to fold it.
A brand-new die-cast aluminium AK gas magazine in the Bakelite design was also produced. The Tokyo Marui AKM gas magazines are also compatible with the AKX.
It shares the same internals as the AKM engine. Strong recoil is produced by the bolt that is driven by the 9mm-diameter piston.
